Look!…I got the post done a whole day early !….Week 2 leaves us with a healthy dose of Bubba….The Best QB in the NFL toys with the Bucs….A single missed kick prevents a Bandit Division sweep….Point explosions in the race for Team of the Week come down to the kicker….We start our Chump Survivor competition….And a special distinction comes down to the last pass thrown by Ryan on Monday Night….
As a special note….While doing research for this week’s numbers I realized some of the Hall of Fame record fields did not show all the current teams…..so I expanded them out to show the Top 20 results in many of the Career related fields….have fun seeing where you stack up in TBFL History….
On with the show….
Eli Manning (MNY)
The 3rd Quarter just ended….your team is trailing 27-16….your starting running back left the game at the beginning of the 2nd Quarter needing x-rays on his neck…your quarterback has thrown 3 interceptions to his 1 touchdown with a current QB Rating of 57.7….But you are not worried….Because your quarterback is Eli FUCKING Manning….Eli led his team on 4 straight scoring drives….gaining 5 1st Downs….going 8 of 13 for an additional 243 yards and 2 touchdowns….a QB Rating of 145.0 for the 4th Quarter….ALL WHILE USING ONLY 6:47 OF THE POSESSION CLOCK!!!….That’s a score every 1:42….He ultimately edged out RG3’s incredible 3 touchdown performance in Week 2 by 1 point….making the X-Factor rookie the bridesmaid for the 2nd week in a row….This is the 1st Player of the Week trophy on the year for the Superior Manning and the 1st for our defending TBFL Champions….
Reggie Bush (BBA)
2 Running Backs found themselves north of the 30 point barrier this week….both of them on teams that were re-writing record books in a battle for Team of the Week….Fred Jackson’s injury opened the door for CJ Spiller….and he capitalized going 123 yards on 15 carries….an 8.2 average per handoff….and 2 trips to the end zone….he pulled in all 3 of his targets for an additional 47 yards from scrimmage….But like the Hurricanes….it would be just short of best for the week….Reggie Bush ran the rock a personal best 26 times for 172 yards….4 1st Downs….and matched the 2 scores on the ground….he also pulled in 3 of his 4 targets for an additional 25 yards ending just 3 points ahead of CJ….This is the 1st Player of the Week trophy for Reggie on the year and the 1st of many awards for Bubba Army on the weekend….
Danny Amendola (BBA)
4 Wide Receivers competed for this award reaching 30 points in Week 2…Dwayne Bowe was the only 1 of the 4 to make 2 trips to the end zone ending at 30 for Armed N Dangerous….Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz both benefitted from the 4th quarter explosion from our Quarterback of the Week getting 10 and 11 receptions respectively….Cruz actually had the most Targets (17) and Nicks the most yards (199) on the weekend…but they both fell short of the Player of the Week trophy….Danny Amendola converted 15 of his 16 targets (93.8%) for an even 160 yards….8 of those catches went for 1st Downs and 1 went to the scoreboard….the extra receptions make the difference as Amendola pulls away and claims the highest point total among all positions in Week 2 with 36….It is the 1st award for Amendola on the year and the 2nd for Bubba Army….
Stephen Gostkowski (HUR)
In our annual game of Kicker Roulette….5 players teased us in Week 2 with double-digit efforts….Hartley (10), Zuerlein (11), and Crosby (12) were each perfect on all of their kick attempts….but the little white ball passed them by….Jason Hanson made 4 Field Goals and 1 Extra Point….but a missed 40 yard attempt left him 1 point short of the trophy and let the roulette ball bounce over one spot to….Stephen Gostkowski….The Hurricanes utility player also nailed 4 of his 5 Field Goal attempts….his 1 miss being much more relevant in the outcome of the NFL contest….but 2 of his shots were for 51 and 53 yards….the long kick bonuses were enough to take his 1st Player of the Week trophy on the year….the 1st trophy for Hurricanes….and breaks up the Bandit Division sweep in Week 2….
Green Bay Packers (BBA)
Week 2 started on Thursday Night with the Packers setting the bar at 20 points….and no one over the course of the weekend made a run at the title….Clay Matthews led the assault….putting 3½ sacks on Jay Cutler….The 6th round draft pick for Runs N Throses definitely felt the pressure as he was rag dolled 7 times on the night….his accuracy suffered while running for his life and he only completed 11 of his 27 attempts (40.7%) giving the ball up 4 times to Packers defensive backs….The squad gave up only 10 points to the Bears and used that bonus to run away with their 1st Player of the Week trophy on the year….the now TBFL leading 3rd award for Bubba Army….
Team of the Week
Although not playing each other….the contest went back and forth between 2 teams in the race for this award….Bubba Army jumped out to the lead with the 20 point outing on Thursday Night….Hurricanes….still sore from their 2nd place finish in Week 1….then took over after the early games on Sunday with a lead of 137 to 115….After the late afternoon games….the Commish’s Crew had Amendola’d the lead back over the dormant Canes 154 to 137….The Sunday Night game would determine their fate….Megatron made up the difference all on his own putting up 17 for Hurricanes….But Jason Hanson managed to chip away at Hurricanes San Francisco defense….Each successful field goal adding 3 to Bubba’s score while taking 3 away from Hurricane’s bonus….Bubba Army takes the Week 2 trophy by 8 points 166 to 158….extending The Army’s own record to a career 22 Team of the Week awards….
166 points is a new team record for The Army….beating out their previous high of 164 scored against The Crew in Week 5 of the 2008 Season….and is the 9th highest score in TBFL history….The 97 point victory over Runs N Throses is also a new team record….besting the 94 point win over….also The Crew….from Week 13 of 2006….and ties as the 2nd largest victory of all time….
Hurricanes 158 points ties as the 14th highest score in TBFL history….The pre-season favorites are now on a 7 game regular season win streak going back to Week 9 of 2011 (they last lost to AND in Week 8)….adding the 109 points scored by Money Inc puts the game in a tie for the 9th Most Combined Points scored at 267….Interestingly Hurricanes are 3-0 against the Money Men in the Regular Season, but 0-2 against them in the Playoffs….
Chump of the Week
69 Points was low enough to take this award in Week 1….and I thought we might see the 1st Team of the Week vs Chump of the Week matchup since Week 5 of last year when Shawn ended on that same score….But Jacob Tamme managed to prove as inefficient as the rest of The Grandmasters line up on Monday Night….securing them this crushed helmet for Week 2….Their 4th time earning this award in the last 9 Weeks of Regular Season play….And the 2nd Week in a row with this award falling on the Storm Division….Even with the 2 titanic scoring outputs above….average scoring in the league actually dropped 2.8% this week from 108.8 to 105.8….but the cellar score fell 8.9%….a full 42 points below that average….66.3% efficiency was the lowest of the week with half of their starters scoring 4 points or less….They will have to right the ship quickly in Week 3 as they are already listed as a 37 point underdog to the Storm Division leading Armed N Dangerous….
Chump Survivor
I said in the last post that we would be starting a new game in Week 2….and with the award winning score….UO Grandmasters becomes the first to be eliminated in the 2012 Chump Survivor competition….Runs N Throses skated on the edge this week with 2 Bandit Division squads right behind them….including last week’s Team of the Week who barely came up with half of their Week 1 score….
A Dubious Honor
Warriors trailed Playground Legends by 13 going into the Monday Night game….Danny had called his shot betting his Week 1 Player of the Week winners Matt Ryan and Julio Jones could seal this victory for him….Willis McGahee gave it his all for the Warriors gaining 113 yards on 22 carries….adding 2 scores….then 2 receptions….he doubled up the difference with 26….Matt Bryant was perfect on 5 kicks to add another 9 points….Their game was tied with 2:34 left in the 4th Quarter….when Matt Ryan threw his final pass of the night….a 6 yard 1st Down completion to Julio Jones….The team who forgets what PPR means wins on the reception and Jones’ 14 yard total….They make the Warriors the first team to lose 100 Tampa Bay Fantasy League games….It took 183 games in just over 13 seasons played to reach that mark….93 of the losses coming in the regular season and 7 from post season matches….The only other teams still in contention to reach that mark by the end of the season are this week’s award winners Bubba Army (92) and UO Grandmasters (91)….
