We round up all of the action from the final week of the regular season….recognize some regular season accomplishments as we prepare for the playoffs…..and name our Players of the Year and the 2011 TBFL All-Star Team….all after the break….
There was strong competition this week as 5 Quarterbacks managed better than 25 points….but it was the Android Rodgers who claimed his 5th Player of the Week trophy in a game Armed N Dangerous had to win to secure the Storm Division crown….With the pressure on to win their 6th game in a row and hang on to the 2nd Bye Week position in the 2011 TBFL Playoffs…The Android went 28 of 46 for 369 yards and 4 touchdown strikes….his 8th 300+ yard game on the year (his 10th 297+ yard game)….He cements himself firmly as the Quarterback for the 2011 All-Star Team….It is the 6th Player of the Week award for AND….
Only 3 points separated the Top 5 Running Backs this week including 3 Top 5 Draft picks in Rice, Johnson, and McCoy….but it was Shonn Greene’s extra efforts in the 4th Quarter that secured him the final Player of the Week trophy on the year….After losing Fred Jackson for the season in Week 11, the Army had turned to Shonn to be their #1 back as they tried to fend off Husslers in the Bandit Division….he delivered this week going for 114 combined yards and 3 touchdowns in a game that sealed the title for his team….This is Bubba Army’s 2nd award at the position and their 4th award on the year….
The Top 3 (and 5 of the top 12) Wide Receivers this week all fought it out in the scoreboard explosion between X-Factor and Hurricanes….8 players hit the 20 point plateau but only Percy Harvin got to 30….and kept going….Harvin converted on 8 of 9 targets for 156 yards and 2 trips to pay dirt….he was late in the year to get rolling but ended with touchdown grabs in each of his last 3 games….With the former Gator’s trophy on the mantle X-Factor ends the year with a league leading 10 Player of the Week awards….3 of them coming from the wide receiver slot….
The final week of the season left us deadlocked at 14 points for 2 different kickers….Armed N Dangerous’s Connor Barth was perfect on 4 Field Goals of 44….46….47….and 50 yards with 1 Extra Point while Hurricanes David Akers hit 4 shorter Field Goals of 19….28….34….and 36 yards with 2 Extra Points….Apparently the MyFantasyLeague voters reward kicking volume over distace as Akers came out the winner of their unexplained tie-breaker system….It is Akers 2nd trophy on the year and the 5th on the year for Hurricanes….
And what would the end of the season be without one more tie to break….Hurricanes Pittsburgh Steelers squad managed 3 sacks….1 Blocked Field Goal….1 Interception….1 Fumble Recovery….and a 67 yard Punt Return Touchdown….meanwhile Money Inc’s San Francisco 49er squad got 4 sacks….1 Interception….1 Fumble Recovery….and pitched the Shut-Out….Our mysterious MyFantasyLeague voters go for Points Allowed apparently as the 49ers are given the Award….their 2nd on the year and Money Inc’s 9th trophy on the season….
Team of the Week
Can this really be happening?….The pre-season favorite is not only going into the playoffs as the #1 Seed but also hitting on all cylinders and peaking as well….Their monstrous 173 point explosion gives them their 4th award in the last 5 Weeks making them the 6th team to claim 4 in 1 year….The new team record is the highest production of any team this year tieing for the 2nd highest score ever in the TBFL….The win over 158 point scoring X-Factor totals out as the highest combined score in league history at 331 and makes them the 4th team ever to go 6-0 in Division Play….the first team to do it since 2006….They end up only 6 points shy of overtaking Runs N Throses as the highest scoring team on the year at 1561 to 1567 which both beat the previous record held by Armed N Dangerous….
Chump of the Week
After hanging on for 3 straight weeks to stay in contention for the Bandit Division title….Husslers finally fell short in their attempt to make the TBFL Playoffs in their rookie season….In a week that saw 27 starters score 20 points or better (with 9 of them in 1 game!)….Husslers could total up 5 of his starting 8 and still fall short of that number….The loss dropped them into 3rd place in the Bandit Division and completely out of playoff contention….the 6th wildcard spot instead going to their Week 13 opponents….The Husslers (and their Cheerleaders!) will instead have to settle for a 1st Round Bye in the 2011 Empire Cup contest….
2011 TBFL All-Star Team
QB
Aaron Rodgers – AND
After Week 7 Armed N Dangerous was sitting at 2-5 on a 3 game slide and 4 games behind the Storm Division leading Thrashers who were on a 4 game streak in the opposite direction….But team captain Android Rodgers would not tolerate any negative talk in the locker room….Over the next 6 Weeks he led all signal callers in the league claiming 3 of his 5 Team of the Week trophies on the year….His determination to win spread across the entire team and they never lost another game ultimately claiming their 4th Storm Division title and the #2 Seed in the 2011 Playoffs….
RB
LeSean McCoy – RNT
While challenging for trophies every week….LeSean never did take home a Player of the Week award on the year….but he does manage to come out on top in the Player of the Year race by 1 point….Averaging a Touchdown and 95 yards on the ground EVERY GAME….he also converted on 71% of his receiving targets for 277 yards and 3 more scores….he will be an essential part of Runs N Throses game plan heading into the TBFL Playoffs….
RB
Ray Rice – XFA
The #1 Pick in the 2011 TBFL Draft may have only been the 7th best player on the ground piling up 926 yards and 9 touchdowns on his 208 carries….but he was the #1 receiving back grabbing 56 of his 82 targets for an additional 547 yards and 2 touchdowns….Rice was a 3 yard reception short of taking down the Player of the Year award but did manage to capture 2 Team of the Week trophies and cement a spot on the 2011 All-Star squad….
WR
Wes Welker – RNT
No surprise here as the TDQBITU’s favorite Wide Receiver tied with Roddy White as the most targetted in the league at 127….but he converted 73% of those (including a perfect 11 for 11 in Week 13) ending up with 18 more receptions than the closest competitior….He was the only receiver to average 100+ yards per game and tacked on 8 touchdowns to ensure his Player of the Year award….He managed to grab 2 Player of the Week trophies along the way including his 50 point outing in Week 3 that tied for the highest scoring outing of any player this year….
WR
Calvin Johnson – XFA
The early leader for the POTY honor….Megatron was averaging 1 touchdown for every 3 receptions through the first 4 weeks of the season claiming 1 Team of the Week trophy….he cooled off a bit after that but still managed to crack 1000 yards on the year and average out to a touchdown in every game played for the X-Factor….2nd in Touchdowns….3rd in targets….2nd in yardage….and 3rd in receptions secures his spot on then 2011 All-Star squad….
WR
Jimmy Graham – HUR
Proving that consistency through the season is more important than indiviudal performances….Jimmy Graham is the 2nd player to land on the All-Star squad without ever landing a Player of the Week trophy….the 4th most targetted receiver with 112….he managed to convert better at 67% to end on the 2nd most receptions at 75….he averaged 14 yards per catch to total out over 1000 on the season and added 8 touchdowns to the Hurricanes scoring totals on the year….
K
Mason Crosby – HUS
In our only position that ended up on a tie for the year….Mason Crosby and David Akers both ended up at 108 points on the season through different paths….Akers led the league in Field Goals nailing 32 for the Hurricanes and adding another 26 Extra Points….Mason Crosby went the other way leading the league going perfect on 51 Extra Point attempts and adding on 19 Field Goals….with 3 fewer missed kicks on the year on 12 more attempts Crosby wins the Player of the Year award….
DEF
Baltimore Ravens – PLA
When your defensive unit is this good….you start them every week no matter what….Bye Weeks be damned as Danny showed us….They earned 4 Player of the Week trophies on the year while piling up a league leading 41 sacks….a league low 192 points allowed….23 takeaways….and 4 touchowns….They end the year as the 32nd highest scorers among ALL STARTING PLAYERS on the year from ANY POSITION….
Good Luck in the Post Season Everybody !
