Statistically Speaking – 2012 Week 07

Statistically Speaking

Yes I am a day late…but hopefully nothing short on knowledge and entertainment…It’s a clean sweep for the Storm Division…Armed N Dangerous may be using some Lance Armstrong deviant on his whole squad…Another spin on the kicker roulette wheel…a Defensive 3 way…Another team doubles up on awards…A giant sized fall from grace…and Chump Survivor…all in this week’s late edition…

Drew Brees (AND)

Brees, Drew NOS QBArmed N Dangerous apparently held off in giving any of the Secret Super Soldier Serum to Kevin Kolb last week and instead saved it for Brees return from a mini-vacation…Since being acquired from the Warriors and buried in boobs and beer…Brees (I swear I wasn’t trying to throw in that much alliteration…) has averaged a league leading 33.3 points per game…and he keeps getting better with every outing…the 3 games played have resulted in QB ratings of 109.0…110.4…and this week’s efficiency clinic of 130.1…27 of 37 (72.97%) for 377 yards and 4 touchdowns...that all came in the 1st half!…In addition to extending his sole claim on Consecutive Games with a Passing Touchdown…he catches another legend in Week 7…tying Dan Marino’s record at 16 games where he has thrown 4 Touchdowns and 300+ passing yards…Only 1 team has held him under 300 yards this year (Chiefs…really?) and only 1 team has held him under 3 Touchdowns (Panthers)…Brees is the 1st player to repeat as a Quarterback of the Week this season…and it is the 3rd Quarterback award on the year for Armed N Dangerous…their 7th trophy on the year…for now…

Chris Johnson (AND)

Johnson, Chris TEN RBCJNOWAY?…Bust of the Year?…Don’t tell that the AND coaching staff…Since stealing him away from Throser in Week 4…just in time to trounce his former team in 2012 T&A Night I…He is #1 in the league for rushing yards (451)…and the 4th highest scoring Running Back (66 points)…that includes a Week 5 outing of 2 points where the AND coaches were wise enough to leave him on the bench (to recover from whatever they are feeding these guys?)…18 carries for 195 yards is a 10.8 yard average…take away the 83 yard 2nd Touchdown run and he still hit 6.7 yards per carry…Following in the footsteps of last week’s winner, CJ ignored our PPR scoring system with only 1 meaningless catch…The 32 point burst is the most from Johnson since 2009 and it is his first multiple Touchdown game since playing the same opponent (Bills) in Week 13 of last year…It is his 1st Player off the Week trophy on the year…the 8th for Armed N Dangerous who have now hit for the cycle with a Player of the Week trophy earned at every position…

Vincent Jackson (AND)

Jackson, Vincent TBB WRTell me if you’ve heard this one before…Miller trades for a player that another owner has given up on…Armed N Dangeorus Coaches perform their VooDoo magic…and that player performs 130% better than under prior ownership (26 v 11.3 ppg)…Since his Week 4 exodus from Husslers roster…VJ is 2nd in receiving yards (382)…#1 in yards per catch (22.5)…and #1 in Touchdown-to-Catch ratio (23.5%)…7 catches on 14 targets are both season highs…with EVERY catch going for a 1st Down or a score…216 yards is a career high besting his previous personal record of 172 from Week 2 of last year…His 2…I mean 1 & how-the-fuck-did-he-not-get-there trips to the end zone makes the 1st time he has scored in 3 straight games since 2009…WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU GIVING THESE GUYS!?!?!…This is the 1st Wide Receiver of the Week Award for Jackson…The 2nd in 2 Weeks…and the 3rd from 3 different players for Armed N Dangerous…who now have 9 trophies on the year…

Sebastian Janikowski (BAT)

Janikowski, Sebastian OAK PKAs has been told by ancient monks…the Golden Rule of award winning Kicker scores is to reach the Spinal Tap score of 11…typically with the 3/2 Field Goal/Extra Point ratio…This week Shayne Graham reached Double-1’s with some new math…instead of getting stopped short of the goal line and having to go for 3’s..Houston just kept pounding the ball down the Ravens throat giving Graham 5 Extra Point opportunities…only 2 Field Goals were needed to take sole possession of the lead at 11 after early Sunday action…Janikowski followed the Golden Path on Sunday Night going perfect on 3 Field Goals and 2 Extra Points…but then he tempted fate…attempting to break his own NFL Record for longest Field Goal (63) with a 64 yard try as time expired…the miss cost him 1 point and brought him to 10…He ultimately was able to redeem himself with an Overtime winning kick to end on 13…It is the 1st Kicker of the Week trophy for the Polish Cannon on the year…and the 2nd trophy for Bay Area Thrashers…

Chicago Bears (UOG)

It was a 2 horse race early…featuring 2 teams that both went into the Negative Zone in Week 6…Fudgie Whales Houston Texans unit stuffed Rice and Company holding them to only 55 yards on the ground…Flacco suffered 4 Sacks and 2 Picks including 1 that went 52 yards to the house…1 short pass and 2 50+ yard kicks were the only scoring allowed to cap out at 18…Bubba Army’s Viking squad harassed John Skelton all morning…7 Sacks…1 Fumble…and a 32 yard Pick-6 of their own had them at a healthy 25 point plateau…but then Andre Roberts burned them for 59 yards on 4 catches in 1 drive ending in a Touchdown…leaving them tied at 18…Voters were leaning toward the Texans…until Monday Night…The Bears have been so good this year that Eric refused to take them off his starting line-up for their Bye in Week 6….and they still outscored these 2 teams…Playing them against his own Starting QB this week…Eric sacked…himself…3 times and gave up 1 pick…to himself…and also recovered 3 Fumbles from Lions Backs…Sitting at a 26 point peak…and his first shut-out within his grasp…Eric allowed…himself…to score…on himself…with a pass with only 36 seconds left on the clock…ending on 19 was still good enough to claim this award for the 2nd time in 2 games played…the only 2 trophies earned for UO Grandmasters on the year…and giving the Storm Division a clean sweep of the Player Awards in Week 7…

Team of the Week

Fudgie Whales first ever TBFL game was an 82-80 2008 Week 1 victory over Armed N Dangerous…It must not have sat well with AND because they have since gone Japanese Whaler on them…winning 5 in a row with an average score of 124-90…the game between them this week featured the Top 6 scoring players on the weekend (The 3 above + Android, Cobb, and Nelson)…The Dangerous Squad had already locked up the Team of the Week title before piling on an extra 21 points on Monday Night making the 277 Combined Score the 5th highest in League history…121 ties for the 18th highest score in a loss for Fudgie Whales…AND becomes the 3rd team in 3 Weeks to claim a 2nd Team of the Week trophy on the year…and joins Bubba Army as the only franchises to claim 20 awards in their history…

Chump of the Week

X-Factor was riding high coming into Week 7…6 Wins in Row to Start the Season…New TBFL scoring record set… 1st Place in the TBFL Power Rankings…A 3 game lead in the Buccaneers Division…and tiebreaker advantage over both Bandits Division leaders [grumble…GIFT!…grumble]…But that’s when life smacks you hard to remind you that you’re mortal…From Champ…to Chump…the ultimate fall has not taken place since…Fudgie Whales and Armed N Dangerous…accomplished the same feat back-to-back in Weeks 4-5 and 6-7 of the 2010 season…However, It was not an uncontested award…UO Grandmasters matched Josh’s squad with 4 Starters under 10 points…but Kyle Rudolph…who scored 5 wasted touchdowns in the 5 previous games on the X-Factor bench…left the League Leader with a goose-egg pulling in 0 of his 4 targets and allowing UO to slip away by a 1 point ‘Victory’ 79-80…

The 103 point drop Week-2-Week is the 2nd largest fall in League history going back to the Tampa Outlaws 106 point fall in between Weeks 12 and 13 of 2006.

Chump Survivor

With the fall from grace, X-Factor becomes the 6th team removed from the Chump Survivor Competition…Only 4 Teams have claimed a Team of the Week award so far this year and now 3 of those have fallen to the wayside…Average scoring in the league rose 5.4 points to 106.9 making Warriors the only Survivor below the mark…Average scoring among Surviving teams was 116.5…

Notes and Numbers

Bay Area Thrashers 4 point victory over Husslers is their 90th Regular Season TBFL win…

Hurricanes are the only team that have scored at least 100 points in every week…but it has not stopped them from losing their 4th game in a row…this ties their franchise record set between Weeks 6 and 9 in 2009…the only season so far that they have lost more than 4 games…

Runs N Throses loss to Money Inc. is their franchise worst 6th in a row…Throsers have never had a season with less than 6 wins and would have to win 5 of their next 6 to keep that intact…

Money Inc. with the victory is now on a 5 game win streak to remain deadlocked for the Bandits Division lead…

After Husslers surprising Award in Week 1, the Team of the Week has followed a pattern going to Bubba Army…X-Factor…Armed N Dangerous…Bubba Army…X-Factor…Armed N Dangerous…I am hoping that continues this week…

Team of the Week requires a lot of scoring this year…While the average League score after 7 weeks is 105.9…the Average score needed to claim Team of the Week is 157…
