Statistically Speaking – 2013 Week 02

Statistically Speaking

Yes…I am a day late…but still in before the Thursday Kickoff…2 Weeks in a row with 5 Awards going to 3 teams…Man vs Machine…Forte gets Lynched…JJ wins a 3-legged race…More Kicks=More Points…Shawn sacrifices his own man…Team of the Week comes down to Monday Night…Who knows how to break a curse?…and Chump Survivor kicks off…lets get to it…

Aaron Rodgers (HUR)

Apparently GREEN was the color for Quarterbacks to be wearing in Week 2…In early games Michael Vick and Aaron Rodgers put up dominating performances…The Android started out hot piling on 335 yards and 3 Touchdowns in just the 1st Half…but then completed only 8 more passes in the game ending 34 for 42 (81% !!) for 480 yards and 4 Touchdowns…a Week 2 high passer rating of 146.0…Vick tried to catch up by doubling his 1st Half production to end 23 of 36 for 428 yards and 2 Touchdowns (123.4 passer rating)…as a last ditch effort he added 34 more yards and a Touchdown on the ground from 5 carries (6.8 ypc)…but unlike John Henry…Vick could not beat the machine falling 3 points short 37-40…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for Rodgers and the Hurricanes…

Marshawn Lynch (RNT)

After leaving him on the bench in Week 1…Fudgie Whales activated Matt Forte in Week 2 in an attempt to go back-2-back for this player award…Although he did not find the end-zone…Forte piled on 90 yards from 19 carries (4.74 ypc) and then grabbed all 11 of his targets for an additional 71 yards in the air topping out at 26 points…Marshawn Lynch was less exciting as he slogged through the 49ers defense…managing only 3½ yards per carry…but he toted the rock 28 times…finally wearing them down in the 3rd and 4th quarters where he punched in 2 Touchdowns to tie for the lead…on his last carry of the game he plunged in for a 2 yard Touchdown to take the title for himself…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for Lynch and Runs N Throses…

Julio Jones (PLA)

It was a 3-horse race for this award in Week 2…Jimmy Graham was the most targeted…converting 10 of his 16 looks into 179 yards including a 56 yard Touchdown grab against the Bucs defense to end on 33 points…DeSean Jackson was the most productive piling on 193 yards from his 9 catches (21.4 ypc) with a 61 yard Touchdown of his own edging ahead at 34 points…But Julio Jones proved the most reliable…he grabbed 11 of his 14 targets (78.6%) for 182 yards and the longest Touchdown of the day at 81 yards…good enough to steal the title by 1 point at 35…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for Jones…the 3rd on the year for Playground Legends who have now gone back-2-back at the Wide Receiver position…(PS. It’s official…Danny knows this is a PPR league)…

Blair Walsh (HUR)

Matt Prater had 7 kick attempts in Week 1 but they were all for Extra Points as the Broncos dominated the season opener…Prater received another 7 kick opportunities in Week 2…but this time the Orange & Blue machine slowed down enough to give him 2 Field Goal kicks to go with 5 Extra Points…reaching the Spinal Tap 11 on an unusual path…Blair Walsh only received 6 opportunities in Week 2…but they were split evenly…giving him 3 Field Goals and 3 Extra Points to end  just ahead of Prater at 12 points…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for Walsh…the 1st Kicker award and 2nd trophy on the year for the Hurricanes…

Seattle Seahawks (RNT)

In late Sunday Night action Runs N Throses impressed us all by choosing a starting Quarterback that was facing his own starting Defense…Colin Kaepernick was coming off one his biggest days in Week 1 with 412 yards passing and 3 Touchdowns…but the Seahawks made him look Ryan Leaf…their pass rush overwhelmed the 49ers O-Line who got caught holding in their own end-zone for a Safety…then they pressured the NFC Champion into 3 Interceptions and sacked him 3 times including a forced fumble…He did tack on 87 yards on 9 carries while running for his life…but ultimately only had 4 possessions that even crossed mid-field…resulting in 3 points scored…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for the Seahawks…the 2nd trophy on the year for Runs N Throses…

Team of the Week

Having the #1 Running Back and the #1 Defense of the Week (at the expense of your own Quarterback…) definitely landed Runs N Throses in the hunt for this award…While no Player of the Week trophies fell his way…Kevin managed to keep the pace with the #2 Quarterback, #3 Running Back, and #5 Wide Receiver all on the Bay Area Thrashers roster…With Shawn’s defense managing to keep Kevin’s kicker neutered at 3 points…Thrashers actually ended Sunday trailing in his game with Warriors 132 to 137…12 points behind RNT’s 144…Antonio Brown was the only player remaining…he managed a 4th catch to pass Warriors with 5:33 left in the 3rd Quarter…then 2 last catches in the final 1:11 for 27 yards to fall 1 point short at 143…It is the 1st Team of the Week on the year for Runs N Throses…their first time in the top spot since Week 3 of the 2011 Season…

Chump of the Week

Things looked good coming out of Week 1…144 points was a strong start for the season (good enough for Team of the Week in Week 2)…but some sort of Voodoo then fell on the Bubba Army camp…Danny Amendola was unable to practice and was announced to miss the game before kickoff…Eddie Lacy was sure to become the first Packer to run for 100+ yards in 40+ games…only to be sent to the sidelines with a concussion less than 2 minutes in…5 minutes later and Steven Jackson was on his way to the trainer’s table with a thigh contusion…Armed N Dangerous felt the curse in proximity as Ray Rice had to leave the game with a hip injury…Reggie Bush was next to fall having to hobble off the field on his bad knee…Vincent Jackson landed a 73 yard touchdown grab late in the 4pm game to climb ahead…only to be nullified by penalty by the shortest offside in recorded NFL History…leaving both teams sitting in the Chump Position at 78 points…Vernon Davis then managed 3 catches for AND before collapsing with a pulled hamstring…6 players injured in 1 week between the 2 teams…and still Coulda Won against 3 teams if I benched Cam…

Chump Survivor

The Bubba M*A*S*H unit becomes our first team to fall out of the 2013 Chump Survivor contest…but just barely…X-Factor, Armed N Dangerous, and Playground Legends all finished within a Touchdown of the title…Average scoring fell 16 points to 108…a number that X-Factor has not come within 26 points of this season…

Notes & Numbers

Warriors being taken down on Monday Night with 137 makes them the 3rd highest point total scored in a loss…

Adding in the 143 scored by Bay Area Thrashers makes their 280 the 8th highest combined score in TBFL history…

2nd round draft pick David Wilson has now been traded 2 times in 2 weeks…

He has had 7 carries and 1 target in each game resulting in -1, and 1 points for a net of 0…

With the 133 total in Week 2…Hurricanes has now gone 20 straight regular season games scoring 100+ points…

If you own Cam Newton in any league…start him in Week 3…because I am going to bench him guaranteeing he has a huge day…
