Here we are Thursday again just before kickoff…Monday Night action almost delivers a Saints 3-fer…our 1st repeat award winner…Thrashers go Back-2-Back…The Giants find their lone bright spot…It takes 8 if you want in on this contest…The Jaguars suck…Thrashers goes Back-2-Back again…The M*A*S*H unit tents unravel…Chump Survivor…which brings us Streaking to a halt…
Drew Brees (PLA)
Alex Smith took the early lead on Sunday managing 325 yards from scrimmage…but unlike Week 3…he added on 3 Touchdown passes…24 of 41 including 2 picks was not the best efficiency however (84.2 QB Rating) and he topped out at 27 points…In late Sunday action…The Not-The-Dreamiest Quarterback in the Universe continued his re-write of the NFL record books…Peyton threw 1 more incompletion than Week 3…but 4 more Touchdowns to lead the league at 16…2x as many as Kansas City threw all last year…He picked up 3 points over his Week 3 2nd place finish to reach 32…but still ended 2nd Best…Drew Brees continued his march on the Dreamiest Quarterback title tying his own NFL record with his 9th consecutive 300+ yard game…30 of 39 for 413 yards and 4 Touchdowns of his own (144.5 QB Rating) against the team that chose not to draft him on Monday Night tied his 36 point output from Week 3…It is the 1st repeat award at any position…and the 5th trophy on the season for Playground Legends…
Darren Sproles (BAT)
Our Week 1 competitors at this position both had impressive displays in Week 3…Reggie Bush came back from being sidelined in Week 3 to shred the Bears Defense (grumble) for 139 yards…Adrian Peterson flew across the pond to London to rip Pittsburgh for 140 yards (128 meters)…and both ended tied on 26 points…In an overtime battle against the most feared Defense in the NFL…Arian Foster gave us his 1st challenge for the title…He cracked the Century Mark for the 1st time in 2013 then added 6 catches including a Touchdown grab against the Seahawks to end on 28 points…but Monday Night would be the decider again…Darren Sproles only had 1 carry in the 1st Half…but it went for a 5 yard Touchdown…he then pulled in all 7 of his 1st Half targets for 114 yards and a 2nd score…that was already good enough to claim the Player of the Week award…but he added 23 more yards on his only 3 2nd Half touches to top out at 31 points…It is the 1st Award on the year for Sproles…the 2nd on the year for Bay Area Thrashers who have now gone back-2-back at this position…
Victor Cruz (HUS)
Week 3 winner Jimmy Graham tried to make it a Saints trifecta snagging all 4 of his targets for 100 yards and 2 more Touchdowns…but he ended in a 3-way tie at 26 points with Thrashers wide outs Dez Bryant and Wes Welker…Torrey Smith only managed to pull in 5 of his 12 targets (41.7%) but 166 yards (33.2 ypc) including a 26 yard Touchdown edged them out with 27 points…Demaryius Thomas proved more efficient grabbing 9 of his 10 targets for only 86 yards…but 2 Touchdowns from our Quarterback Runner-Up…to end up as the Wide Receiver Runner-up at 29 points…After exploding for a 3rd place finish in Week 1…Victor Cruz had struggled as the Giants self-destructed…but in Week 4 he capitalized on being the most targeted player (16) and hauled in 10 catches for 164 yards including a 69 yard Touchdown in a game otherwise devoid of Giants highlights…The 32 point effort is good enough for his 1st Player of the Week award and the 1st trophy of the season for Husslers…
David Akers (MNY)
3 Kickers ended on the Spinal Tap total of 11…Matt Bryant and Steven Hauschka followed the Golden Path with 3 Field Goals and 2 Extra Points…Matt Prater took a much longer route needing 7 Extra Points and a distance bonus earning 54 yard Field Goal to get there…he is now on pace for 116 Kick Opportunities this year…Stephen Gostkowski followed the path to 11…then added an Extra Point to get to 12…But David Akers would take it farther…He matched Prater’s 8 Kick Opportunities but split them evenly with 4 Field Goals and 4 Extra Points against the Bears Defense (grumble…) to top out at 16…The score is the highest for a Kicker this year…ties for 7th Highest overall…and ties a Money Inc team record (Gould 2006, Week 5)…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for Akers and the 2nd trophy on the year for Money Inc…
Indianapolis Colts (WAR)
It’s funny the conversations we have about Waiver Wire picks…Wednesday morning I was discussing my options and noted “Reggie coming back against the Bears Defense does not really help me. If they stuff him…it hurts me…if he explodes on them it hurts me. Maybe I should just grab Indy and start them against Jacksonville”…Which was replied to with…”I ride Chicago until the bye week and I’d still start them then”…This is the same person who told me to draft Jordan Cameron in the 10th round…so I listened to him and not my gut…-3 Points later I trailed the Colts by 31 points…4 sacks forced throws into coverage…3 Interceptions including a 41 yard Pick-6 kept the Jaguars out of the end zone for a 12 point low score bonus…The Jaguars suck…listen to my gut and start whoever you have against them…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for the Colts and the Warriors…
Team of the Week
Kevin’s team took a sizeable lead after Sunday’s afternoon games sitting on a 40 point advantage 137 to 97 with only a kicker to face…Hurricanes managed their 22nd straight 100+ point outing trailing at 114…but both Saints blowing up on Monday Night did not give them the chance to compete for the title…Kevin was 2 points away from winning Week 2…tied for the title in Week 3…and blew us all away with 168 points in Week 4…It is the highest score of the year…the 8th highest overall…Adding the 102 scored by Husslers ties the 13th Highest combined score at 270…and has the defending TBFL Champions on top of the Power Rankings…
Chump of the Week
And on the opposite end of those rankings…sits the only team to defeat BAT this year…The M*A*S*H unit got back Reggie Bush…great games from Alex Smith and Gostkowski…and that’s about it…The crutch that delivered a win in Week 3 was kicked out from under the Army in Week 4 and as discussed above making the wrong Waiver Wire move planted them firmly in the Chump Seat for the 2nd time this season…12 of 18 roster positions scored single digits…0…or less…for a woeful max potential points of 107…Maybe I should start adding bullet holes to that helmet for additional “Awards” earned…
Chump Survivor
Our 2nd repeat appearance in the Chump Seat means we lose our first team without a crushed helmet…Going into Monday Night…Armed N Dangerous had fallen from the top position to a 3 point advantage over Money Inc…Tim’s crew still had Mike Wallace and the Dolphins Defense to go…Wallace scored 5…but the Defense gave back 4 making them the low man on the totem pole at 89 points…Averaged scoring climbed back up to 110 with 3 teams still in competition below that mark…
Notes & Numbers
As the only remaining unbeaten team…Hurricanes 4th win in a row to start the season is a team record and ties for the 9th longest opening streak of all time…
As the only remaining winless team…X-Factor’s 4th loss in a row to start the season is a team record and ties for the 6th longest opening streak of all time…
Bay Area Thrashers win ties them with Bubba Army in 2nd place with 110 Wins in All Games played…
The 2nd outing of futility makes Bubba Army the 2nd team to reach 100 Losses in All Games played…taking 210 games played to reach that mark…
