Statistically Speaking – 2013 Week 05

Statistically Speaking

Yeah yeah…Thursday…I know…the slack-ass tag is there…I got 99 problems but points ain’t 1…There were crazy points to be had this weekend including 99 in one game…20 different starters put up 20 or more…and another 15 were left on TBFL benches…Team of the Week comes down to 1 point again…Chump of the Week battle ends unexpectedly…Cowboys stats…lets get into it…

2013-potw-wk05

Tony Romo (FUD)

If you did not throw for at least 400 yards then you were not in the running in Week 5…that only leaves THAT GAME…Peyton “I’m starting to look kind of Dreamy” Manning continued his assault on the NFL Record Book…he completed 33 of his 42 passes (78.6%) for 414 yards…then threw 4 more Touchdown strikes to set a new record for the most TD’s thrown in 5 games (20)…after ending in the runner-up position for this award 2 weeks in a row…Peyton ran in for a score…shocking everyone that he had even left the pocket…and ended on his 2nd highest point total this year at 41…On the other side of the field…Tony Romo threw more incompletions going 25 of 36 (69.4%)…but he threw deeper balls…racking up a personal best 506 yards (14.1 ypa) and 5 Touchdown passes of his own…to reach 46 points…It is the 4th highest Quarterback score of all time and a new Team Record for the position for Fudgie Whales (Android 41, 2012 Week 6)…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for Romo and the 3rd trophy for the Whales…

Ray Rice (AND)

5 Running Backs cracked 20 points in Week 5…LeSean McCoy maintained his hold as the only back averaging 100 yards per game (514 total) to end on 20…Jacquizz Rodgers salvaged a win for the M*A*S*H unit getting 2 Touchdowns against a Jets squad that had only given up 1 rushing score all year…he ends on 21 points…but was 1 yard away from a 3rd TD that would have won this title…Jamal Charles ends with the most rushing yards on the weekend (108)…he added a score plus another 37 yards in air support…then fumbled back to 23 points…Knowshon Moreno was the benefactor of THAT GAME totaling the most total yards from scrimmage (150) with 5 catches and a Touchdown to end on 25…and as the 2nd Broncos runner-up this week…Ray Rice managed only 2.7 yards per carry…but he was fed the ball a league leading 27 times against the Dolphins…including Touchdown runs of 2 and 3 yards…he added another 6 catches on 7 targets for 28 yards to reach 26 points…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for Rice and Armed N Dangerous on the season…

Alshon Jeffery (XFA)

3 Wideouts cracked 30 points in Week 5 including 2 from THAT GAME…Dez Bryant matched his Week 2 output of 141 yards…but managed to do it on 3 fewer catches hauling in 6 of his 10 targets including getting 2 Touchdowns again in back-2-back weeks…a lost Fumble would end his week on 31 points…Julius Thomas fought from the opposite sideline while matching the effort…He caught the 1st 7 balls thrown his way for 85 yards and 2 Touchdowns to sit at 27…then grabbed 2 more of his last 5 targets for 37 yards to reach 33 points…and our 3rd Bronco runner-up…After being traded on Thursday…Alshon Jeffery broke loose pulling in 10 of his 13 targets (76.9%) for 218 yards…breaking a Bears receiving record dating back to 1954…hauling in his 2nd Touchdown in 2 weeks sealed the deal at 37 points…It is the 2nd highest Receiver score ever for X-Factor (Steve Smith 41, 2007 Week 2)…and ties with AJ Green for the 2nd highest this season…It is the 1st trophy for X-Factor on the year…

Matt Prater (UOG)

Golden Rule…Spinal Tap limit…yeah throw that all out of the window as 5 kickers surpassed it…”Worst Keeper of the Draft” Nick Folk went 3 and 3 including the Monday Night game winner to reach 12 points…Steven Hauschka, Garret Hartley, and Justin Tucker all hit on 4 Field Goals and 2 Extra Points for 14…Hauschka then missed a kick to drop 1 behind at 13 while Tucker hit the distance bonus to move ahead to 15…and then there was THAT GAME…Prater continued to clean up on his record number of kick opportunities (38) getting 6 more Extra Points and 3 Field Goals including a 50 yard distance bonus and the game winner…His 59 points on the season is 8 more than Jacksonville has scored all year…It is the 2nd Player of the Week trophy for Prater and UO Grandmasters…

San Francisco 49ers (FUD)

49ersWith 99 points scored in THAT GAME…the Broncos (-7) and Cowboys (-11) were definitely NOT in the running for this category…Stop me if you’ve heard this one before…Matt Schaub throws a Pick-6…The 49ers continued this tradition extending his streak to an NFL record 4 straight games throwing a Touchdown to the other team…2 more rips…a Sack…and a Fumble Recovery kept Houston’s offense off the field long enough to manage only a Field Goal scored…The 27 point total was the runaway winner for the 49ers 1st Player of the Week award…the 4th trophy on the year for Fudgie Whales who are now only a Wide Receiver away from hitting for the cycle…

Team of the Week

xfa-helm-250px

Like a Phoenix rising from the ashes…After dropping the 1st 4 games of the season and already trading away talent for future keepers…X-Factor showed they were playing wolf in sheep’s clothing as they exploded on the unsuspecting Legends…Pryor doing his best Drew Brees impression in the Sunday Late-Late-Late game capped them off at 162…51 points better than their highest potential score all year…but the race was not over…Fudgie Whales finished Sunday at 153 with Roddy White still to play on Monday Night…Of course Gasper had been congratulating himself all week for stashing Justin Blackmon on his roster for 4 weeks to when he would have his 1st appearance for the woeful Jaguars…Those 24 points would have given him the title…but instead Karma mocked him as White caught all 4 targets thrown his way for 45 yards…then left the game just before halftime…leaving the Carvel Crew 1 point short at 161…a new Team Record for the Whales…these scores make the 3rd and 4th 160+ point games on the year…tying the full season totals from 2011 and 2012…

Chump of the Week

hus-chump-250px

After Bubba Army got Cam Shafted again on Sunday…and Warriors caught some of the injury bugs from too close contact with the M*A*S*H tents…this matchup sat at 58-55 and looked to surely determine the Chump of the Week winner…An all Hot-Lanta Monday Night affair would determine the outcome as Rodgers and the Defense faced off against Gonzo and the Kicker…The Defense and Kicker washed at 4 apiece…Jacquizz went from splitting backup duties to becoming the whole show when Snelling went out with a concussion…Gonzalez was targeted 14 times and pulled in 10 of those for 97 yards including 7 1st downs to keep the chains moving…but it was Rodgers who managed to make 2 trips to the end zone against a Jets squad who had only given up 1 rushing Touchdown all year…When the dust settled in an Army victory at 83-78…it was Husslers and their -7 from the Denver D in THAT GAME that found themselves a Field Goal behind in last place…

Chump Survivor

Husslers watching a 20 point advantage fall to the wayside makes them the 4th team eliminated from the pool…and sadly the 3rd in 4 weeks from the Bandit Division…Average scoring in the league stayed the same at 110…but only 3 teams left in contention made that mark…Warriors lands just North of the cut line in back-2-back weeks with Buccaneer Division rival Runs N Throses only 2 points away…

Notes and Numbers

Money Inc’s victory over AND is their 75th Overall Win…

Warriors defeat to Bubba Army is their 110th Overall Loss…

With the unexpected win…X-Factor snaps their 4 game losing streak…

Hurricanes extends their streak of 100+ point games to 23…but their loss to Bay Area Thrashers extends that streak to 6 games…and ends their 4 game winning streak to start the season…

Double Digits Is Not Enough

The Average Team of the Week score is currently 153…or 19 pts per roster position…

The Average Chump Score is 72…or 9 pts per roster position…

My Favorite Factoids From THAT GAME

Dez Bryant has caught at least 2 Touchdowns 8 times….and is 1-7 in those games…

Tony Romo has thrown for 400+ yards 5 times in his career…and is 0-5 in those games…

The Cowboys have now lost the last 8 games in which Romo has thrown a 4th Quarter pick…with 6 of the 8 losses being by 7 points or less…
