Statistically Speaking

Ties Fucking Suck…just sayin’…Yeah we are back on Thursday…deal with it…This week we get 2 guys named Nick…NFL Records are tied…head-2-head running backs…Johnson goes off…for a tie…A tie for Defense of the Week…Chump Survivor…and Playoff Tiebreakers…lets get to it…

2013-potw-wk09

Nick Foles (AND)

If I read you the stat line of 22 of 28 (78.6%)…406 yards…7 Touchdowns…& 0 Interceptions…the 1st Perfect Passer Rating of 158.3 since November 18, 2012…clearly that belongs to a Future Hall of Famer who can do no wrong and is part of the NFL’s Royal Quarterbacking Family…but no…that stat line belongs to a player who has only started 9 NFL games in his career…After laying an egg against the Cowboys and sitting out Week 8…Foles found the reset button and dismantled the Raiders Defense [grumble] becoming only the 2nd player to throw the Perfect Passer Rating with 400 yards (Ken O’Brien, 1986)…and tying the NFL record of 7 Touchdowns in 1 game last seen by Hunter’s Mortal Enemy in Week 1…49 Points is the 4th highest ever scored by a Quarterback in a TBFL Game…the 3rd Quarterback score to crack the Top-5 this Season…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for Foles…the 3rd trophy on the year for Armed N Dangerous…

Zac Stacy (PLA)

The 30 point plateau was reached by 2 Running Backs facing off against each other in Week 9…CJ28 had a slow start to the season but has now put together back-2-back Top-5 performances…He shredded the Rams Defense for 150 yards on 23 carries (6.5 ypc) including 2 2nd Half Touchdowns…3 catches on 4 Targets for an additional 20 yards in the air ended his day at 32 points…In only his 5th NFL start…Zac Stacy cracked the Century Mark in back-2-back games piling up 127 yards on 27 carries (4.7 ypc) and 2 Touchdowns of his own…he was targeted 7 times and managed to haul in 6 receptions for an additional 51 yards to just edge past Johnson with 35 points…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for the rookie…the 2nd Running Back award and 9th trophy in 9 weeks for the still silent Playground Legends…

Andre Johnson (BBA)

After watching yet another Bubba Army Wide Receiver exit a game with injury at the start of the 2nd Quarter…and then watching the POTW Quarterback drag the Oakland Defense to the Negative Zone [grumble]…your Commish had abandoned all hope this week and…TURNED OFF FOOTBALL…The Walking Dead seemed more appropriate…but then I got the “I Told You So” text informing me that even if I somehow won…I was told to start Witten over Kerly [grumble]…Having already expected defeat I curiously looked up the halftime stat line…7 catches…190 yards…3 Touchdowns!!!…meanwhile Luck had only completed 3 of 12 passes for 56 yards!!!…Of course the 2nd Half was another story as Luck led his team to the win and Johnson was targeted only 3 more times getting 2 catches for 39 yards…the last of which secured the greatly undeserved 102-102 tie…49 points ties as the 8th Highest TBFL Player score of all time…The 3rd Highest from a Wide Receiver…and a new Team Record for Bubba Army (45, Brian Westbrook, 2007 Week 3)…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for Johnson…and the 6th trophy of the year for The Army who have now hit for the cycle with an award at every position…

Nick Folk (PLA)

Stephen Gostkowski continued his assault on the Kicker of the Year race hitting 7 Extra Points and 2 Field Goals to top out at 13 points…But it was Nick “Worst Keeper of the 2013 Draft” Folk who topped the Week again…Folk was perfect on 4 Field Goals and 2 Extra Points to reach 14 points in the Jets upset victory over the Saints…He is currently the 2nd highest scoring kicker on the year behind Gostkowski with 84 points…he is tied with Dan Carpenter for the fewest Kick Opportunities among the Top-12 (37)…making him the most efficient kicker in the bunch…gaining 2.3 Fantasy Points per Kick Opportunity…His streak of 23 consecutive field goals made is the longest current streak in the NFL…23 field goals made in a row to start a season is the longest in Jets history…It is the 2nd Player of the Week award for Folk in the last 3 weeks…now the 10th trophy in 9 weeks for Playground Legends who are just another Defense award away from their 2nd cycle of the season…

Kansas City Chiefs (BAT)

We had a Defensive Stand Off in Week 9 with 2 Defenses ending in a tie…The Carolina Panthers allowed only 10 1st Half points to be scored before pitching a 2nd Half shutout…only 1 Sack…but they ripped Matty Ice 3 times including a 38 yard Pick 6 in the 4th Quarter…and forced a Fumble from Jacquizz Rodgers to end on 20 points…The Kansas City Chiefs followed the “Bend but Don’t Break” plan…they gave up 470 yards of total offense to the Bills but only allowed 13 points to be scored…they did not manage any Sacks for the 1st time all year…and only managed 3 takeaways in the game…but they made them count…an 11 yard Fumble Recovery and a 100 yard Interception made their way back to the end zone and a 4th Quarter shutout left them tied with 20 points…MyFantasyLegaue voters gave the edge 2 Touchdowns to 1 to the Chiefs for their 2nd Player of the Week award on the season…the 5th trophy on the year for Bay Area Thrashers…

Team of the Week

After Sunday Games were completed…Hurricanes looked like they would secure their 1st Team of the Week award on the year sitting with a 129 to 117 advantage over Run N Throses and The Android still to play…but then the Bears threw a monkey wrench into his robot shoulder on his 4th snap of Monday Night ending his week at 130 points…Meanwhile Brandon Marshall reeled in 7 of his 13 targets for 107 yards and a Touchdown to bring Shawn’s Squad up to 140 points…He has now hit 100% efficiency in back-2-back weeks…it is Throsers 2nd Team of the Week award on the Season…the 3rd earned from the Buccaneers Division…and their 17th in Team History…

Chump of the Week

Again…after Sunday Games were completed…4 teams sat under the Century Mark with Armed N Dangerous in the hot seat with only 80 points…Unfortunately for Money Inc…they were the only squad among the 4 with no players running on Monday Night…ANDGB got a 39 Point Packer Powered boost to just edge out UO Grandmasters…X-Factor got 17 from Alshon Jeffery to end on 110…and Fudgie Whales rode Matt Forte for 28 points to finish off the Money Men…It is their 1st Chump Award earned since Week 4 of the 2011 season…

Chump Survivor

Average scoring in the TBFL rose 11 points to 114…the 2nd highest total this season…Money Inc’s Chump score of 97 was the only 1 to not reach the Century Mark…After hovering just above the cut line for so many weeks…Warriors finally succumbs and leaves the contest with the highest score of the year…Our Final 4 now consists of our 3 current Division Leaders with Armed N Dangerous…

Notes & Numbers

The victory by Runs N Throses is their 110th Regular Season Win and their 115th Overall Win in TBFL history…

…while the loss by Warriors makes them the 1st team to Lose 50 Division Games…taking 88 Division Games played to reach the Milestone (43.2% Win Rate)…

UO Grandmasters have the longest streak running with 5 consecutive losses…and their 5th consecutive loss to Armed N Dangerous…

Tom Brady has attempted 340 passes this season…Nick Foles has attempted 118…and they both have 13 Touchdown passes…

Nick Foles is the 3rd player to throw 7 Touchdown passes without an Interception…and the 1st to throw 7 in the 1st 3 Quarters of a game…He is the 2nd player to throw 7 against the Raiders (Dan Fouts, 1981)…It is more Touchdown throws in 1 game than the Jaguars (4) or Vikings (6) have had all season…

Andre Johnson’s 62 yard Touchdown to start the scoring against Indy snapped his streak of 74 regular-season receptions without a Touchdown…the longest drought of his NFL career…It was also the longest streak of catches without a touchdown in NFL history by a player with at least 50 TD receptions at that time (Ed McCaffrey, 72)…

NY Jets have tied the 2005 New England Patriots for the longest streak of wining every other game (9):

Playoffs

TBFL Playoffs Logo

If the Playoffs started today:

#1 Seed - BAT (7-2-0) - Div Champion (By H2H win over HUR)
#2 Seed - HUR (7-2-0) - Div Champion
#3 Seed - FUD (6-2-1) - Div Champion
#4 Seed - RNT (5-3-1) - Wildcard (By Div Record over AND & BBA)
#5 Seed - AND (5-3-1) - Wildcard (By H2H win over BBA)
#6 Seed - BBA (5-3-1) - Wildcard

With 4 weeks left to play…The Division Leaders are comfortable…but nothing is cemented in yet…Both Riley brothers are out of contention to win the Buccaneer Division…but both will have a chance to play spoiler with Shawn battling from 1½ games back of John…Kevin has 1½ games on Miller…2½ on Danny who upset him this week to end Thrashers 7 game Win Streak…And the Bandit Division is still technically open for anyone to claim with Husslers tie keeping them at 4 games back and a run possible…

That tie [grumble] also forces a 3-way lock at 5-3-1 on the Wildcard spots…Armed N Dangerous defeaed Bubba Army in Week 2….And The Army defeated The Throsers in Week 8…but the circle won’t be closed until AND and RNT play in Week 10 for our 2nd T&A Night of 2013…With no clear cut head-2-head winner…we go to Division Record where Shawn is 2-1-0 to claim Seed #4…AND then claims Seed #5…with BBA holding the last Wildcard…

On the Outside looking in:

MNY (5-4-0)
PLA (4-4-1)
HUS (2-6-1)
WAR (2-7-0) (By H2H win over XFA)
XFA (2-7-0)
UOG (1-8-0)

With 5½ Wins being the lowest rung on the Wildcard ladder…The Grandmasters have become the 1st team to enter the 2013 Empire Cup tournament…Warriors and X-Factor are both mathematically alive in the Wildcard race at this point…while Husslers, Legends, and the Money Men are all still mathematically able to win their Divisions with a hot run…
