Statistically Speaking

Hey!…I got it done on Wednesday Nig-…After Midnight?….ok fine…It’s a fucking Thursday feature…but Thursday Morning this week…Lots of QB records are broken…JC is back in KC…We go to a 3rd Tie Break between 3 Tosser Targets…a 2-way Tie for the Kicker title…Defenses will lose you games in this league…Team of the Week looks familiar…Chump of the Week looks TOO familiar…Chump Survivor…some Streaks…and odds & ends…lets get to it…

2014-potw-wk04

Andrew Luck (UOG)

Luck, Andrew IND QB3 Quarterbacks crossed the 30 Point Barrier in Week 4…Much like Luck last week…Philip Rivers got the benefit of facing the Jaguars Defense…He hit Eddie Royal for a pair of 40+ yard scores in the 2nd Quarter…setting a new team record with a Touchdown pass in his 24th straight game…He finished with a 377 yard day rounding out at 30 points…The Android bounced back from a disastrous outing with the Lions and took out his wrath on the Bears…He was the most efficient on the weekend (see below) hitting on 22 of 28 (78.6%) passes for 302 yards and 4 Touchdowns…a Passer rating of 151.2…ending on 31 Points…Andrew Luck treated the Titans just like the Jaguars last week…efficiency dipped…getting 2 fewer Completions (29) on 2 more Attempts (41)…but he tacked on 23 more yards and the same 4 Touchdown total…a lone Interception before the half ended him a point short of last week’s total at 34…his 3rd 30 Point outing in 4 Weeks…The Back-2-Back title makes him our 1st repeat winner on the year…it is the 2nd trophy on the Season for UO Grandmasters…

Jamaal Charles (MNY)

Charles, Jamaal KCC RBDeMarco Murray lead all players on the ground…again…piling on 149 yards while extending his streak with a Rushing Touchdown to 4 straight games…the longest streak of his career…ending on 27 Points…After being traded to Husslers in a last minute deal…Matt Asiata exploded on the Falcons…he managed 78 yards on 20 carries (3.9 YPC)…9 of which came in the Red Zone including 3 short yardage Touchdowns…22 more yards on 3 receptions ended Sunday with him in the lead at 30 points…Resting for Week 3 got Jamaal Charles back in sync…He had 9 carries in his previous 2 games…but doubled that up against the Patriots for 92 yards (5.1 YPC) and a 2 yard TD plunge…he then returned to last year’s form hauling in all 3 of his Targets in the Red Zone…including 2 more Touchdowns to finish in 1st at 31…It is Charles 1st Player of the Week award on the season…the 3rd trophy on the year for Money Inc…

Steve Smith (AND)

Smith, Steve BAL WR3 Wide Receivers ended in a dead heat at 32 Points in Week 4…Jordy Nelson continues to lead the Season in Targets (49) and pulled in 10 of his 12 (83.3%) opportunities against the Bears for 108 yards and 2 Touchdowns…Antonio Brown became the 1st Position Player to crack 3-Digit scoring on the year (102pts…25.5/g)…completing 7 of his 11 Targets against the Bucs for 131 Yards and 2 Scores of his own…he also completed a 17 yard pass to LeVeon Bell…just 3 yards shy of breaking this tie…and finally “Old Man” Steve Smith showed his former team how much gas he still has in the tank…he pulled in 7 of his 10 targets for the Week’s highest yardage (139)…and his 1st 2 Touchdown game since Week 1 of the 2011 Season…Normally Touchdowns break ties here…but 2 across the board sends us to Scoring Efficiency…with Brown and Smith both earning 4.57 Pts/Reception…Smith wins the 3rd tie break in a 3.2 vs 2.9 Pts/Target ratio…It is the 1st Player of the Week award for the Old Man…and the 2nd trophy on the year for Armed N Dangerous…

Nick Novak (HUS)

Novak, Nick SDC PK3 Kickers made the Spinal Tap cutoff in Week 4…Week 3 winner Vinatieri got 7 Kick Opportunities against the Titans…but 5 were for Extra Points leaving him at just 11…Nick Novak got 7 Opportunities of his own against the Jaguars…capiatalizing on 4 Field Goals and 3 Extra Points to climb to 15 points…Blair Walsh got 8 chances at home against Atlanta…he also converted on 3 Extra Points and 4 Field Goals including a 55 yard bonus earner…but finished tied at 15 with a final Wide Right try from 49…Tie goes to perfection and Novak’s no-missed-kicks…It is his 1st Player of the Week award on the Season…the 2nd straight earned against the Jaguars…and the 2nd trophy on the year for Husslers…

Miami Dolphins (RNT)

dolphins4 Defenses managed to hit 2-Digit scores in Week 4…unfortunately for Husslers…The Falcons got there in the wrong direction (-11)…literally costing them a game against Armed N Dangerous (105-100)…X-Factor’s Panthers squad also gave the game away to Playground Legends (85-83)…giving back 8 points of their own…The Chargers as mentioned above enjoyed the Jaguars visiting the West Coast with 3 Sacks and 3 Turnovers to reach 10 points…My personal candidate for MVP right now…JJ Watt took a Pick-6 80 Yards against the Bills to secure Houston’s victory ending them at 12…but it was the Fins playing Across the Pond who found the most success…They sacked Derek Carr out of the game in the 3rd Quarter…then forced a Fumble and a 50-yard recovery for a Touchdown on Matt McGloin’s 1st possesion…and an Intercption on his 2nd…finally ending the day at 17 points…it is the 1st Defense of the Week award for Miami…and the 3rd trophy on the year for Runs N Throses…

Team of the Week

bat-helm-250px

Well this is getting old really fast…4 Weeks into the season is the fastest the mark has ever been achieved…3 Team of the Week awards already ties for the 10th Highest amount obtained in a Single Season…1 short of the Trashers all-time record of 4 (2005)…and leaves him just 1 short from yet another Season of playing without paying…143 Points was still only 84.6% of his possible 169 with Larry Donnel’s 30 points keeping the bench warm…but the win is Kevin’s 105th Regular Season Victory…and the 21.83 (how do you say that?) time winning this award…

Chump of the Week

bba-chump-250px

[Sigh]…With Jordy Nelson and Miami going off on me early…I figured I would lose the game…but just wanted to finish out of last place…Benching Week 3’s Defense of the Week against the Titans (9) in favor of a Steelers game at home against the Bucs (3) proved to be the downfall…finishing just 1 Point behind an X-Factor squad who got stat-adjusted down to 83 when a catch scored to Maclin was corrected on Monday Night…The defeat is The Army’s 100th Regular Season loss…the 3rd team to reach the Milestone…taking 212 Regular Season games played (47% Lose Rate)…and their 105th Loss All-Time…

Chump Survivor

Average scoring rose 4 points to 104…with only the Top-4 teams making it over that hump…82 Points is the highest score to drop a team from the competiton so far…and we now have 1 team from each Division watching from the sidelines…Husslers (97.5) and Money Inc (99.3) have the next lowest averages on the year and will need to step it up to stay afloat…

Notes & Numbers

Runs N Throses and Playground Legends have now both won 4 straight games to start the season…tied for the 4th Longest Streak out of the gate…It is the 2nd 4-0 Start for Danny (2010)…and the 3rd time for Shawn (2 5-0 starts…2001 & 2011)…But this is the 1st TBFL Season ever to have 2 4-0 Teams…

Hurricanes 131 is the 9th Highest Points Scored in a Loss…2 Points shy of their Team Highest losing score (2012 Week 12…XFA 144-133)…and their 2nd 1 Point Loss in the last 3 Weeks…The 4-Game losing streak ties their longest ever (2009…Weeks 6-9)…and is the 1st time they have ever started 0-4…

The 13 NFL games played in Week 4 were decided by an average of 17.6 points…There have been only 2 weeks in the last 25 seasons with as high a margin of victory…2009 Week 7 (20.3) and 2012 Week 15 (18.7)…

J.J. Watt…who caught a TD pass against the Raiders 2 weeks ago…is only the 2nd player since the NFL-AFL merger in 1970 with a TD Reception and a Pick-6 in the same Season…Mike Vrabel did it in 2005…Of the 8 other players to record at least 20 sacks in an NFL season…2 scored TDs as long as Watt’s at some point in their NFL career…Lawrence Taylor on a 97-yard Interception return in 1982…and Derrick Thomas on an 86-yard fumble recovery in 1993…Honorable mention to Reggie White who scored a 70-yard TD on a Fumble Return in 1987…

On the day in which the Packers got their 700th win…Aaron Rodgers became the Quarterback with the fewest pass attempts to reach 25,000 passing yards (3085)…he was almost perfect…going 6-of-6 overall when passing at least 15 yards downfield…10-of-10 targeting Jordy Nelson in situations in which the Bears rushed four men or fewer at him…and 7-of-7 on 3rd Down for 79 yards and 2 Touchdowns…
