Look I actually got it done on Wednesday!…really on Wednesday!…Wow…probably never happen again…We have a plethora of records being broken…You need 30’s to win most awards this week…but we get a 40…2…(see what I did there)…Kickers under whelm…Defenses prove to be costly again…the Pack is Back…All Quiet on the Legendary Front…Did I mention all the records broken?…Streaks are busted…but slumps are not…yet…lets go!
Peyton Manning (PGL)
Only 2 Quarterbacks eclipsed 30 points in Week 5…Peyton started breaking records early…His 7th completion for a 7 yard Touchdown made him only the 2nd player in history to reach 500 for their career…479 Yards passing on the day was a personal Career high…and tied Dan Marino for #1 with the 13th 400+ yard passing game of his Career…he tacked on 3 more TD’s to end 5 short of Favre and topped out at 37 points…a new Team Record for Playground Legends (Brees 36, 3 times in 2013)…the score seemed like a lock till DangeRuss Wilson started breaking Monday Night records…122 yards on the ground is a new Monday Night Quarterback record…adding 200+ yards in the air puts him in elite company with Michael Vick and Donovan McNabb as the only other Quarterbacks to accomplish that feat in 2 or more games for their Career…2 Touchdowns and 0 giveaways ended his night just shy of Peyton at 36 points…it is the 1st Player of the Week award for Manning…the 2nd trophy on the year for the Legends…
Matt Forte (WAR)
3 Running Backs hit the 30 point barrier in Week 5 (not counting the 2 BBA and BAT left on their benches)…Arian Foster lead all rushers with 157 yards and 2 scores on the ground…he tacked on 2 more catches for 15 yards to just make the cut at 30 points…Andre Ellington lead all Running Backs in receiving yards getting 112 on 4 catches (28 YPC)…but only produced 32 yards on 16 carries (2.0 YPC) on the ground…a pair of Touchdowns (1 catch…1 rush) ended him tied at 30 points…Matt Forte had a more balanced attack…17 carries piled up 61 yards in the dirt (3.6 YPC)…but he was the most targetted Running Back on the day…pulling in all 12 for 105 yards and a Touchdown in the air…the extra catches edged him ahead to 33 points and his 1st Player of the Week award on the year…the 2nd trophy earned by the Warriors…
Demaryius Thomas (HUR)
If Peyton is going to set a personal yardage record…well then those yards had to go to somebody…Demaryius Thomas was the target on 16 of Manning’s passes (1 of every 3 thrown)…he only managed to convert on ½ of them….but averaged 28.3 yards per catch to reach his own career high 226 yards on the day….including Touchdowns of 31 and 86 yards in the 2nd Quarter…42 Points earned is the highest score from any Player at any Position this Season…it ties as the 18th highest Wide Reciever score of all time…the 2nd Highest in Team History for Hurricanes (Megatron 51, 2013 Week 8)…it is the 1st Player of the Week award for Thomas and the 1st trophy on the year for Hurricanes…
Cody Parkey (RNT)
Overall Week 5 was disappointing for Kickers as nobody followed the path to our Spinal Tap score…Dan Carpenter had only 4 Kick Opportunities…He hit 3 Field Goals including a 58 yard bonus earner…but hit the upright on a 44 yard try to fall back to 9…Steven Hauschka got 5 tries…but did it backwards with 3 Extra Points and 2 Field Goals to also end on 9 points…Cody Parkey got 6 opportunities…but an extra-Extra Point only left him at 10 points for the day…good enough to claim his 1st Player of the Week award…the 4th trophy now earned for Runs N Throses who are just a Quarterback award away from hitting for the cycle on the season…
Philadelphia Eagles (XFA)
5 Defenses found their way to 2-Digit scores in Week 5…and just like last week 1 of them was in the wrong direction…After getting a game handed to them by X-Factor’s Defense last week…Playground Legends returned the favor to Husslers posting a -12 from the Bengals…a 33 point swing from the 21 the Chargers scored on their bench…The Packers managed 23 points on Thursday Night facing the Vikings 3rd String Quarterback…getting 6 Sacks and 3 takeaways inculding a Pick-6…but the Eagles were the record breakers…They scored Touchdowns on a Punt Block and a Fumble Recovery…increasing their total to 7 Return-TDs this season…tying the NFL record for Return-TDs in the first 5 games of a season…a mark that has stood since the League’s first year of operation in 1920 (Buffalo All-Americans)…4 Sacks of their own just edged them ahead to 24 points…It is the Eagles 1st Defense of the Week award (The 2nd DOTW in a row to play against Bubba Army)…and the 2nd trophy on the year for X-Factor…
Team of the Week
ANDGB is back!…after spending 4 weeks at the bottom of the TBFL scoring ladder…Miller’s Packer Powered offense ran away on Thursday night with 75 points to start the 1st T&A Weekend of the Season…with disappointing performances from Reggie Bush and Steve Smith in early Sunday action…it looked like the race was back on with ANDGB holding only a 1 point edge over Warriors 88 to 87…Riley got a 2nd 30+ point Running Back in Ellington to end at 120 points…but Antonio Gates caught 1 last pass for 12 yards to give Miller the 2 point edge at 122…their 1st award of the year…Armed N Dangerous have now won Team of the Week 24.33 times…moving ahead of Bubba Army on the All-Time list with the fraction…they will look to continue their success in Week 6 in their Divisional Matchup with UO Grandmasters…who they have beaten in their last 6 contests…
Chump of the Week
Oh how the Noisy have been Quieted…Apparently not wanting to look the gift win from X-Factor’s Defense in the mouth after Week 4…Danny has suddenly not found any power in that microphone atop his Podium for over 2 Weeks (Sep 22)…68.3% efficiency was the lowest of any team in Week 5…but let’s not kid ourselves…it all boils down to that 33 point swing from starting the Bengals (-12) instead of the Chargers (21) Defense…without that mistake FUD and MNY would be splitting this award…It is the Legends 1st Chump of the Week award since Week 11 of last year…which is also the last time AND won Team of the Week…
Chump Survivor
I don’t know if I should take it as a sign that things are changing…but our previously evicted teams posted 3 of the Top-4 scores in Week 5…meanwhile Playground Legends win streak came crashing down with their 1st Chump Score of the season…Average scoring in the league fell 3 Points to 101…Thrashers were the only Surviving Team to reach that mark…Legends leave the competition matching the highest evicted score of the year at 82…Husslers and Money Inc still have the lowest weekly average among remaining teams…
Notes & Numbers
Throsers and Legends both end their Win Streaks to start the season at 4 with their losses this week…going from a record 2 4-0’s to now a 3rd straight Season with 0 5-0’s…
Hurricanes fell to a 5th Straight Loss to Start the Season…tied for the 5th longest streak to start a year…continuing the longest consecutive loss streak in their history…it is their 7th Consecutive Loss to Bay Area Thrashers…the only team Hurricanes has never scored a Win against…John will be looking forward to a Slump-Buster with a Week 6 matchup against Warriors…where he enjoys an 11-1 record against…including winning the last 8 straight matchups…
X-Factor’s 100 points this week makes them the 11th team overall to reach 10,000 points scored in the Regular Season…96 games played to reach the mark makes them the fastest to reach the Milestone (104.4 ppg)…
DeMarco Murray failed to score a touchdown for the 1st time this Season…but he did reach the 100-yard mark for the 5th time in 5 games…The only other NFL players with at least 100 rushing yards in each of their first 5 games in a season were Jim Brown (1958) and O.J Simpson (1973 and 1975)…
Blake Bortles…who threw a Pick-6 in the 4th Quarter of the Jaguars loss to the Steelers is nevertheless in good company…It was the 17th Regular-Season game in which a rookie Quarterback started against Ben Roethlisberger…a list that includes Eli Manning (2004)…Joe Flacco (2x in 2008)…Andy Dalton (2x in 2011)…and RG3 (2012)…Pittsburgh has won all 17 of those games…
Charlie Whitehust only needed 3 Pass Attempts to score 2 Touchdowns against the Browns in relief of the injured Locker…He previously only had 4 Touchdowns for his entire career over 178 Attempts…
And my favorite stat of the week…Over the 1st 5 Games…the New Orleans Saints have given up 17 points to their opponents in the final 27 seconds of the 1st Half…way to play till the whistle guys…
