…onto the details…Saturday Night…my daughter mentions that she wants to go see Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials…the sequel to the moderately successful film from last year that we both have read the entire series of books for…so being the cheapskate that I am…I look up the matinee prices for Sunday morning…and book 2 seats on Fandango for my local AMC theater…(My AMC has reserved seats…love booking ahead with Fandango and getting to show up last minute)…
Noting that the movie time will run through kickoff time…I go ahead and look up any last minute news for my team…Seeing that Mike Evans will be a dreaded ‘Game Time Decision’ even though he has stated all week in the local media that he is 100% Ready To Go…I opt to bench him and insert Allen Robinson into my lineup due to his good game against the Dolphins last year (10 Targets, 5 Receptions, 82 Yards, Touchdown)…
So Sunday morning comes…my daughter and I head to the movies…and discover upon arriving that the air conditioning system for the entire theater is broken…with temperatures approaching 90 outside…I could not imagine what it would be inside with 300 people on top of each other….so we opt to take a couple Re-Admit passes to come back another time…and head home…
So with nothing to do now…I had been meaning to take my first foray into Daily Fantasy ‘Contests’…and right on our homepage was a link from MyFantasyLeague to enter a free contest at DraftKings…I had remembered seeing another free entry from Footballguys…so I signed up…they matched deposits so I made one…which also gave me a Ticket for a Free Entry into one of their smaller contests…and I paid to enter the $2 Million Guaranteed event…why not?…It seemed like a good use of my Week One TOTW award…
I made one lineup to enter into all of the games…it looks pretty similar to my TBFL lineup…but I believe in my guys…I added Mark Ingram on the chance Brees hit him for a TD to double-up…and of course you have to add GRONK…I took the Rams to decimate the Redskins…and Heath was the best player for the funds I had left:
So now I still had time to kill before kickoff…and the news hit that a decision had been made on Evans…he was suited up and would play (remember above…feeling 100%)…Fully believing the Bucs would trail all day and that he would benefit from garbage time yards…I flipped my TBFL lineup…putting Robinson back on the bench:
In an odd state of scheduling…all of my remaining players started their games at 1:00 PM…and as we all now know…Evans managed no catches on 3 Targets…for a giant Goose Egg…and I ended the day early at 79 points…while in the 4:00 PM contest…Allen Robinson blew up for 33 Points on the Bubba Army bench…To add insult to injury…Warriors roster managed to end the day right at…111 Points…1 Point short of my 112 total had AMC’s air conditioner been working and I had just enjoyed my movie…not coming home to see the Evans news:
I kept checking in on my DraftKings lineup after that…and slowly watched it fall from the ~24,000th place and $40 Payout…down to the $35 bracket…and ultimately settling at 82,289th place…good enough to win $25…both FreeRolls came up empty…but the Ticket entry was still good enough for another $5 winner…
Back-to-Back TBFL victories would have been sweet…but at least I still earned TOTW level money…Congrats to Warriors on sliding by and going 2-0 to start the season…Still need to go see my movie…If anyone wants an invite to join DraftKings and get a free entry ticket…I’ll send you one…
